Small Ottoman
A small ottoman can be functional, comfortable or purely decorative, making a small ottoman the perfect addition to many room styles. Available in a wide variety of colors, fabrics and textures, small ottomans can add comfortable finishing touch to any room decor.
Whether you call it a footstool, ottoman, or, in the case of Miss Muffitt, a tuffette, the right small ottoman can be a great addition to your leisure furniture. Terms such as footstool and ottoman are used interchangeably to describe any type of foot rest that may or may not be covered in upholstered fabrics.
The use of the footstool dates back over five thousand years. The history of the ancient Greeks and Egyptians is replete with examples of different chair designs that very often included some type of ottoman. Small ottomans may have been used more for mounting the chair then for resting ones feet. The ancient Egyptians had more than a basic understanding of ergonomics. The literature would suggest that they intended to keep literally keep their feet on the ground. It was probably no accident that, in order to maintain a proper posture, an ottoman or footstool may have been used.
